Down with Conjunctivitis...

Sighz. Down with conjunctivitis today, went Staff Clinic and was give 2 days MC. Cos I'm not a confirmed staff yet, these 2 days of MC have to be taken as NO PAY LEAVE! So sad... Oh well, at least the free consultation and medicine at Staff Clinic is a consolation...

Can hardly catch my breath...

Wooh, been really busy lately. Been juggling making arrangements to go Aussie, getting used to my new workplace/job scope, joining the church choir, and all of my other outside commitments. Honestly, I haven't been this busy in YEARS. Almost cannot breathe liao! Hope things get better soon!

Windows Vista?

I'm wondering if I should try out Windows Vista, since I do have an original copy of Windows Vista and Gladys is using Vista on her laptop. Furthermore, my current Win XP is getting cranky. Or is it too early and I should just wait?

Anniversary!

Can't believe that it's our 4th anniversary already. Time really flies. And we had been rather busy of late such that we didn't really have the time to prepare for our anniversary. So Gladys had to rush to prepare the food for BBQ after work. She also made cheesecake with Bailey's and chocolate. Yum yum.

Back at work

Can't believe I'm back at work. I'm actually starting to regret it, cos I'm like loaded with changes right as I start. I'm gonna have no break before school starts too. But well... What to do? I should work for my HTC Touch. 2 weeks of work should roughly cover the cost of the HTC Touch with contract.

But boy... It's really quite tiring to start work right after reservist.

I'm Going to Australia!

Just received news a while ago that I GOT THE SCHOLARSHIP! So I'll be going to Australia for about 10 months to study and returning with a Bachelor of Nursing. Leaving next year early February, returning late Nov. That's all I know for now, more details later!

Really gotta hand it to them...

Well, it's been almost 2 months since my interview, and Singhealth has yet to get back to me regarding the scholarship. Or to any of the other applicants for that matter. 2 days ago, Sister Carol asked me to go collect new SGH uniform for wearing to the Istana on Nurses' Day. One other applicant was also asked to do the same. I'm HOPING that we're chosen to go 'cos we got the scholarship (there are 2 openings), but I can't b sure cos nobody is telling me anything! ARGH!

Some words of advice that I just found to be applicable to everyone at some time or another:

Watched Transformers for Free

We watched Transformers at Suntec Eng Wah for free! We had the lovers seats and had a regular popcorn and a drink each, for free too! Was that great or what?

The department I'm interning in had this corporate event for the customers. They gave tickets to their clients and some internal colleagues from other departments. They had spare tickets, so asked me to go for the movie screening. When my colleague who was distributing tickets at the venue knew that I'm watching with Gladys, she gave me the lovers seats. Haha.

Transformers was really good too. Full of action, nice cars, good humour and sarcasm. General Motors gonna have good sales after the screening of the show man. All the cars in the show are from GM! Apparently, they discontinued the Chevrolet Camaro (Bumblebee) a few years ago, but is going to release it again because of the show.

Highly recommended show to watch. All my friends who watched it only had praises for it. As a lot of us said, brought back old memories. WAHAHA

A few rules about love and marriage

I read this in Tuesdays with Morrie, and I feel that I should share this small part with everyone (or at least the few people who actually read this blog). Mitch, the author, was asking Morrie, his ailing professor about marriage:

Is there some kind of rule if a marriage is going to work?
Morrie smiled. "Things are not that simple, Mitch."
I know.
"Still," he said, "there are a few rules I know to be true about love and marriage: If you don't respect the other person, you're gonna have a lot of trouble. If you don't know how to compromise, you're gonna have a lot of trouble. If you can't talk openly about what goes on between you, you're gonna have a lot of trouble. And if you don't have a common set of values in life, you're gonna have a lot of trouble. Your values must be alike.
"And the biggest one of those values, Mitch?"
Yes?
"Your belief in the importance of your marriage."
He sniffed, then closed his eyes for a moment.
"Personally," he sighed, his eyes still closed, "I think marriage is a very important thing to do, and you're missing a hell of a lot if you don't try it."
He ended the subject by quoting the poem he believed in like a prayer: "Love each other or perish."

This really touched my heart. First, he said that things are not as simple as having rules, and I completely agree, which is why I don't believe in saying love is this and that. But there are some guidelines that are true about love. Without these, there's going to be a lot of trouble. With these, it still doesn't mean everything will work out, of course. His "rules" are very good guidelines indeed. I see couples who can't talk openly about their problems in the relationship. I see couples who don't even share common values. They're having so much trouble. (I must note here though, that there are couples who are having so much trouble, can't solve the problems, and still together. The people who are suffering just stubbornly refuse to let go of the relationship. I also don't understand why. Maybe such people like the feeling of pain and being tortured?)

And the belief in the importance of your marriage. That is one thing that seems to be lost among many people now. When we look at certain cultures, marriage and divorce just comes so easily.

If you haven't read Tuesdays with Morrie, do read it. There are many copies of the book in the libraries. It'll get you thinking quite a bit about life.
